Show off your mods, get help on a mod, heck, even just have a good time downloading other folks mods. This forum is all about modding for any non-SWBF games.
It can be a lot of fun. Be prepared to do epic things. Whether they're epic win, or epic fail is up to you. I play it every once in a while. In fact, I just began learning how to pilot helicopters yesterday without remembering the control scheme. I'm one of the worst pilots ever, but I can at least get it somewhere before I crash. XD I wouldn't know anything about modding this game, though.

I also stink at flying aircraft, I downloaded the demo, IT IS AWESOME! I got the complete pack. (Spec ops, Armored fury, and Euro force)
Go on the BF2 filefront site to download the modding program.
sorry for the bump but if you want to mod bf2 and have trouble with the mod tool do it manually (requires a lot of space!)
1- copy and paste the "bf2" folder inside the mods folder (in the main game directory)
2- open "objects server" with winrar
3- extract the document (or folder) you want to mod eg "Weapons" (only edit the "tweak" files unless you have lots of time and don't get irritated easily)
4- edit the doc / folder you extracted
5- move the edited file back into the winrar folder and delete the original
6- Test it in game by starting up bf2 and going to the "community" screen and selecting "custom games"
