Sky City?

Post by vortexus »

I have just had a great idea after looking at the"upper city"thread and i thought "yeah an upper city would be great but why not go a step further and creat a sky city?
It could be great fun and it cold be a reason for people to try and get flying vehicles.

STLYE:
Now i thought a kinda bespin sky city with some Megeto type buildings but thats open to suggestions.

LAYOUT:
Layout is realy dependent on how big it could be(most likely more town/village than city) . It would ofcourse have to have a hanger to land on/in. It could be a space style hanger that you land in or it could be a platform type thingy like th ones used in the bespin level in battlefront 1 that I can not remember but where you fly around, I think its called mining faciltie or something like that, Why not both?
Now for what else would be in the city is for you to decide. personaly I thought a cantina or some kind of chat bar thing, maybe a zone just on the edge of the city which is split up to have a dogfight arena and a Sky race course-there was aan old game called crazy planes if anyone can remember witch was sky based but had lots of small obsticles and tight squeezes-this might require some sort of barrier and some tricky LAU to stop people blasting eachother and the people walking about on the city, maybe you could have a small shooting areana?a bit like the turrets in space you go into a seperat room and there are two diferent set of control seats one is an enclosed areana witch will sporn flying droid targets of varying speeds and the other set of sets will open ont a small battle arean with people vehicles and turrets to provide a battlefront expirance,a possible is that there could be a docked ship not a captal but a frigat kind of thing which could have some monster things in its hold and some battle arenas maybe missions could be given like in the Spira:Besaid map  , the rest is up to you what do you want it to look like? Or do you think its a rubbish idea to be spat upon :cpu: ?(one small thing I was thinking open plan with some closed up buildings as oposed to fully closed up like a capital ship)All these ideas could be included on the groung is you decide that the sky city is a bad idea.

Please comment and tell me what you think?

Edit: Just a note to pplz, Fiodis is considering doing a Cantina in the Sky Because a Sky City would be to big and to much of a tax on the Object count. Now this thread is ,more about a Sky Cantina and stuff like that.

...You mean D.U.C.Ky?
I think it's a great idea and all, but you'd have to get everything into one object for it to work right.

I think it would be cool, but it wouldn't work, as Teancum said in my topic about an "Underground City,"
Teancum wrote:Aside from the object count, I'm concerned with this place being a ghost town as-is anyways. It's already a big map, then you add a second, higher up layer that the AI just won't be able to use and things start to get really scarce. Even online with 10-15 players + 200 AI in-game per side it's gonna be really quiet.
I think we need to remember that not everyone on GameToast is going to be on at the same time, and therefore if we have too many... "extensions" to the cities, there will only be 1 or 2 people in each part, and it shan't be any fun at all.

I agree with Ducky :P (I know him on Xfire so I've got the privilege of calling him that. :D) and what Tean said from the Underground City topic. I don't think we should go totally mad with stuff in the DMI, not that it should be small and simple, but we shouldn't add endless stuff.

Idea: what if it wasn't a complete city up there, but more of a second-cantina type place? You know, where people can get together and stuff. Escape form the AI madness if they so choose. Chat. Enjoy the view, because there'd be a good one. A small, seperate platform-island in the sky, from which residents can smell the clean high-altitude air.

It could be reachable by teleport, possibly a teleporter machine in the cantina or a teleporter machine in every private home.

If an inventory's possible, then so would money, yes? In which case, if the teleporter was in the cantina, people would pay to get beamed up to the place. Or, if Rep decides it should be a free ferry service, we could have the teleporter free, or one in every home.

If you're worried about the object limit, I'd be willing to donate my lot for this "cantina-in-the-sky". That's assuming I still have the lot I asked for. I have been doing a little work on it, toying with different setups, but I admit that this sky-platform would be a better idea, so if you want to include this, Rep, you can have my lot/object count.

Off topic: What would the regulations be regarding teleporters in private lots? Are they allowed? Say I wanted to go ahead with this idea, and placed a teleport region on the ground under the platform. Is that legal? Teleport regions/Nodes don't push the object count, do they?

I think we already have enough of a split in the lower city/upper city. And we are indeed pushing the game's limits, so I think it would be wise to just do the basics and then go extra if we can.

Rep has spoken!

But what of my off-topic question? Can we put teleporters in our lots, if only to get between rooms with no doors?

I guess there's no rules against it, but I have always found that doors work just fine for me. :)

Good, sky-castle here I come. I suppose we'll have to tell you the names of our regions/nodes, so you can reference them in the LUA?

And I never relaly believed in doors. They're so... boring. Isn't using teleporters to get between rooms what you would call "Creativity"?

teleporters are fun, but i think we should consider this Calculus level equation:

more regions = more regions.

There's only so much space you know

Hi guys, just to say I never expected so many posts!
Right, I now see the problems with my idea. It was origanly intended this as an idea just as a suggestion, but as an example
I'd be willing to donate my lot for this "cantina-in-the-sky".
Flodis
I did get a little carried away(as usaul)about the things that could go in theSKY CITYsorry about that. :cpu:
I think it won't be possible to do aSKY CITY, but I do like the Sky Cantina Idea.
OK, SeeyasXD

As I said, I'll gladly donate my lot. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I am sure that this cantina-in-the-sky will be my lot. Yes, that's what I'm going to do. A teleporter at ground level to a cantina/primitive apartment\small garage platform, all under 30 objects.

If you're going to put something high in the sky, add landing platforms (or just do that instead of a teleporter). There will be plenty of flyers.

Do you think a "gas" station(see my post in the DMI Plan thread) would work up there as well :P ???
