Under City?

Post by Blade »

I know that we're already majorly pushing the object count, but does anyone else think that, instead of everyone extending UP, maybe some of us should go down...

I think it would be cool to have a small network of tunnels connecting some of the lots/buildings. Trainmaster's making a subway, right? Why not have some branches of that tunnel so that there's not only one entryway, or a small, underground bar? just something like that. I think it'd be fun. Of course, we need to get everything else done, to see if we can even get all the stuff that's already planned done. But if anyone else is wanting to, I can design some simple tunnels, and my building may even end up being an inverted skyscraper (going into the ground, rather than up).

I was thinking the same thing for my skyscraper, so sure. I'm all for it.

I personally would say it wouldnt be a good idea. We are already going to majorly push the game. It would also make it even worse for people with slower PC's who this map will be laggy for already so I'd say lets not push it any farther

I know, that's why I said:

These are just ideas, I'm not even sure if I can design a good building yet :P. Probably what would be done, would be that someone would measure the distances that need to be done for everyone who wants to have an outlet in their lot, and then just make the whole "lot" as on object. If it's just metal tunnels it wouldn't need to be terribly detailed anyway, and we can add a few (probably less than a few) objects for a bit more detail.

Aside from the object count, I'm concerned with this place being a ghost town as-is anyways. It's already a big map, then you add a second, higher up layer that the AI just won't be able to use and things start to get really scarce. Even online with 10-15 players + 200 AI in-game per side it's gonna be really quiet.

I like the idea. But it will get a little annoying to make, just watch.

I'm just curious but what is so difficult about doing things under ground. I've been doing it for a year now and it hasn't killed me. Also, with the under city, I'd be able to add it to my house no problem, I'm already underground, but, like Teancum said, the people will become pretty scarce with all these places to go.

I was essentially making the same point there when the upper city idea first started. There's only going to be so many people and they'll be so spread out. Its going to kill activity not only on the ground level but the ground level will also be competing with the top level for traffic, which leaves an already very small market divided up.

The last thing we need is an underground. That being said, I'm not going to connect my subway systems to the underground city.

Eh, maybe this isn't a good idea after all. Well, my building is still (probably) going to be an inverted skyscraper, because I think that not having to really design the outside will make it easier to do a better interior.

Another problem with underground building is just how painstaking it is. The tinyest gap ruins it.

Yeah, but if it was all one object no one could add things and we might as well call this the static map idea. :runaway:
