Pioneer Mod

Post by CressAlbane »

Hello, I've been making a mod to add more "pioneer" or "homestead" elements to Minecraft.
It includes:
-Hay Blocks
-Aid Kits and Needles
-Barrels
-Firewood
-Sickles

Allow me to introduce... the Hay Block!
Hidden/Spoiler:
Image

Hay blocks are a method of storing large quantities of wheat. Here's the recipe:
Hidden/Spoiler:
Image
I made a small barn to show off the block:
Hidden/Spoiler:
Image
I'm still working on finalizing the texture here, and then I'll be moving on to my next addition: corn.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Introducing...
The Aid Kit!
Hidden/Spoiler:
Image
While food is no longer an instant heal, the Aid Kit fills that gap. With the ability to heal 1 heart 16 times before breaking, it's an asset no homesteader should leave home without!

It's crafted using Needles:
Hidden/Spoiler:
Image
I've already fixed the texture bug of the Needle, however I may re-design it as the current texture is rather bland. (But come on, it's a needle!)

Needles may have another purpose in the future.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Introducing...
the Barrel!
Barrels are similar to their cousin, the bucket, but are far superior due to their ability to hold up to 4 blocks of water at a time! Observe:

One fills up the barrel 4 times:
Hidden/Spoiler:
ImageImageImageImage
Now, one can empty out the water one block at a time! The texture even changes to reflect the amount of water inside:
Hidden/Spoiler:
ImageImage
The recipe for crafting a barrel is as follows:
Hidden/Spoiler:
Image
1 x Barrel
1 x Roll
2 x Peppy Hare
4 x Wisely-Used Bombs
As you can see, the barrel is a valuable tool for any aspiring pioneer. It's great at transporting water for crops!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Introducing... Firewood

How many times have homesteaders had to spend cold nights shivering in their houses, balefully wishing for just one piece of coal? Too many! Now, the common Wood log can be split into a great fuel source!
One simply takes an axe: (any material will suffice)
Hidden/Spoiler:
Image
And right-clicks the desired log!
Hidden/Spoiler:
Image

Firewood is a furnace item with 4 uses, about half as powerful as coal. However, its ability to come from trees makes it a much more versatile, renewable fuel source!
Hidden/Spoiler:
ImageImage
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Introducing... the Sickle!

How many times have you broken a piece of wheat and thought, "this could be so much simpler?" Well, now it is. The Sickle is a new tool specifically for harvesting crops.

One uses the Sickle (right-click) on the crops:
Hidden/Spoiler:
Image
And it cuts off the parts you want, leaving the pieces you don't need to grow anew!
Hidden/Spoiler:
Image
The Sickle cuts down the plants to growth level 2, meaning it's one step ahead of just replanting the crops. And it's so much faster, you'll start taking a Sickle with you every time you harvest. The recipe is:
Hidden/Spoiler:
Image
I might change the sickle growth level to 3 if I decide it isn't useful enough.
Sickles may have another use in the future.

If anybody wants a download link for this, just post that you do and I can upload everything I have now.

EDIT: Wooo, 1000 posts!

Nice Mind if I ask which Block you over wrote? I normally do the Sponge.

Lanterns I would say they could hang from things? And maybe be carried by the player and light up the area around him?

I've already fixed the texture bug of the firewood.

Lanterns are still on hold while I decipher how torches are set up, but in the meantime I'll be working on a new tool for farming!

EDIT: I've come to a decision about lanterns: They'll only be placeable directly above or below other blocks. (to hang on or rest on them)

(Do you all prefer the large or small images? Just for future reference)

I'm still working on the Lanterns, so never fear. But I'm also working on a new piece of armor that's homestead-friendly!

This mod is looking really good.

If I may, I thought I would throw out an idea. I've never modded MC so I don't know it's limits.

Sharpening Wheel.
Ingrediants: 2 iron ingots and 2 stone blocks
Hidden/Spoiler:
Image
Use: Repairs swords to 50%-70% health, extending their life.

@DrakusFett's below suggestion: It sounds good to me. :)

Very nice idea! But one change I would suggest is it only works a few times then breaks the sword or something.

Regarding firewood: can't you already burn wood in furnaces?

Yes, but it's way less useful than coal. Besides, how often have you used wood to fuel your furnace recently?

Everytime I start a new game: one piece of wood in the bottom, the rest in the top. Charcoal. Put one of the charcoal pieces in the bottom when the last piece of fuel is burning and you've got a whole lot of charcoal being made.

If I don't find coal in time.
I get charcoal.
But I think Firewood seems like a nice Idea for some people :)
