Nice to see GT coming to BF2142, it'll be a great resource, as always.

OK, now to my question: How will '2142 manage custom content (maps, weapons, characters etc)? Is it similar to SWBF2, whereby the custom content has to be installed prior, or will it support downloading content through the game interface?

I personally believe this was a major fault of SWBF2, as all the goodies made here were generally not used by the wider community. I don't know how BF2 manages it, as I don't have the game, but I would assume it is similar.

As far as I know, it shouldn't be that hard :) Just using 3ds Studio max, and possibly Maya as well.
But if I recall right, those Swedes are pretty good with helping the modding community :)

I was wondering how the content is distributed. Though its nice to know the two 3d modelling programs I am efficient with are supported (well, they both are for BF2). 3DS Max is my upbringing, so I am quite a capable modeller in that, and as for Maya, I used to hate it but now that I've had a professional education on it I'm probably better at it than 3DS now.

If I am to assume that the Custom Content is basically the same deal as in BF2 then the content will have to be downloaded prior to playing the game.

In BF2 custom content (like maps) isn't very big, finding a custom server with more that 32 players is very difficult. Most Custom content is placed into mods. And while downloading the content from the server is nice, it slows down the server (something very bad on a 64 player game) and most of the files are very large to download (sometimes up to 200 mb for one map).

However, mods for the game should fix the "fix" for new maps.
