Skyrim Mod Showcase

I decided to make a topic to showcase any mods for Skyrim.

First off, my very first mod. I started about as small and simple as you can get.

Chocolate Glazed Sweetroll texture mod.

Improved Dragon Priest Normal Map.

I made a brand new normal map for the Dragon Priest hood (as opposed to editing the existing one). I wanted more depth to it, and I'm very happy with the final result.

Same texture size, so you'll have 0 performance loss. It's a small change, but I like it, and I hope everyone else does too.

Expanded Spouse Choices - Thane Bryling.

If anyone else makes a mod for Skyrim, feel free to post it here. :)

Still working on art assets and getting used to the setup of some things. New stuff will be added in fairly soon.

Give it a try :D

Hey WULF, where are some tutorials for this?

I don't know of any, but I can make a quick 'How to make a texture mod' tutorial. Be wary, I suck at tutorials and I'm writing this really quick. I'm also doing it mainly by memory, since I'm with my mom at a hospital. She fine, but it's still keeping me busy.

1. Download a program that can extract the BSA files. I use BSAopt.

2. Copy the Skyrim - Textures file found in Skyrim\data. Paste it to your desktop or wherever you please. I made a folder in My Documents folder to paste it to.

3. Run BSAopt x64 (or BSAopt x32 if you don't have a 64 bit system). Near the top right hand side, click browse and select the Skyrim - Textures file you just copy-pasted to the location of your choice.

4. Down at the bottom right, next to the Convert button, click on browse. Select the folder you copyed the Skyrim - Textures to, this will be the directory the textures are extracted to.

5. Click convert.

6. Eat a chocolate glazed sweetroll while you wait.

7. Once it's done converting, delete the Skyrim - Textures file, since you don't need that copy anymore.

8. Edit any texture in the way you please with the program of your choice. I use a DDS plugin for GIMP.

9. To install your mod, you need to recreate the folder directory. For example, the sweetroll texture directory is Skyrim\Data\textures\Clutter\ingredients. Basically anything in these folders will be loaded after the main BSA archives, overwriting the original.

You probably can figure out the rest, but feel free to ask questions and have fun modding. :)

As a side note: Specular is controlled in the alpha channel of the normal map. Unlike SWBF2, where specular is controlled by the alpha channel in the diffuse texture.

I never liked the stealth crosshair and I wanted to play without crosshair(disabling the crosshair just disables the normal one)...

Its full when youre hidden and empty if youre detected, it has as many steps between hidden and detected as the eye had(64 frames). I might make a glow effect or something to replace what was once the 'glowing' inside the eyeball.
Its just one file to replace but this file contains the complete HUD(not menus).
And while testing I for the first time saw the Headless Horseman! :D

Looks a bit bright and colorful compared to the rest. :D
What effect will this have? More carrying capacity?

Yeah, more carrying capacity is the idea. Just a little something for the people that like realism and such, or people that don't like wasting enchanting slots on the Carry Weight enchants.

The model and texture is not final. Normals, Spec and the Mats on it are messed up. Just a quickie model to test getting it ingame properly.

Keep up the cool work there VF501. :)

I made quite a few simple mods today. The first edits Thane Bryling of Solitude, adding her to the marriage, and follower factions, while giving her armor, a better weapon, allowing her to level with the player, and I removed most of the makeup on her face (I can't stand the stuff, especially in Skyrim).

The horns badly need more detail.

Looks really good! I'd probably have to agree with mini though on the horns. They're really noticeably low-res. Should be pretty easy for you to fix though.

Yes, I'm fixing it. I use the smooth modifier. Now the horns are better:
