Ok, here's a few tips:
#If you are unsure of something, just ask. Most of the time they will gladly answer
#Read the manual and do ALL of the tutorials, review them if neccesary
#In space maps, When you first start out, don't have your fighters guard your base. Instead, as soon as you can, bring them to nearby mining stations to capture them
#Always beware of your population limit. Don't build several fighters, and then realize you've reached the population limit.
#Always have some reinforcments
#In space, if you have more than one person on your team, arrange it so that someone is continually upgrading.
Ok, I'm done

::TAO'S SPACE COMBAT BIBLE::
1. Always have at least 3 squadrons of fighter guarding your space station.
2. Always have a stronger defense than your offense.
3. Send fighters to build pads in space to build mines. You'll get some much-needed cash.
4. Pay attention to the "strong against, weak against" windows.
5. The Empire can never have enough TIE scouts and TIE bombers.
6. The Rebellion can never have enough Y-wings.
7. When fighting against a frigate, go for the engines first. An armed sitting duck is a sitting duck nonetheless.
8. Always destroy a Space Station's hangar.
9. If you have Red Squadron, Lucky Shot is your best friend.
10. Fighters are your greatest asset. If you still have fighters, you still have a chance.
11. Never fight a frigate with another frigate.
12. Never fight a capital ship with another capital ship.
13. ALWAYS fight a fighter squadron with another fighter squadron or a Corvette.
14. Never fight a Corvette with another Corvette.
15. Don't talk about Fight Club.

Off-topic : Well, DarthDeathRow, if you do not mind this Decision, I would wish to made the current thread available as a local "Sticky", as I guess all "Tips" and "Advices" you have obtained so far could be equally intended to any other owner of Star Wars : Empire At War, which would surely reinforce the "helpful" and "constructive" aspect of GameToast Community...
