Help! Converting msh!

Post by Syth »

Okay, first, dont assume I didnt search the forums- of course I did. But I am still stuck. I downloaded BConstructer 1&2 but I dont know how the hell to use them. I have Mod tool 4.2 (like many other people here). Heres what I want to know:

1. Step by step, how do I put a msh (like the B1 droid for example) into XSI Mod Tool?

2. Is it possible to convert Mod Tool models into msh with out XSI 5.0/foundations?

Could someone please help??

hmmmm if you did use the search tool the n you ddint use it very well or you didnt look very hard.
These exact same q's have been answered at least 50 times before by various members.
Anywaysheres the answers to your questions:

1) you cant, objects go XSI to msh, not the other way

2) no, the mod tools are only compatable with the full version of XSI

msh to BConstructor to MilkShape 3D to XSI

Post by AceMastermind »

Here's something i've been playing around with recently.

Open the ".msh" file with BConstructor,
Export the ".msh" file as "Milkshape3DASCII.txt"

Import the "Milkshape3DASCII.txt" file into Milkshape3D,
Export the file as ".xsi"(with the .XSI Exporter plug-in)

Import the ".xsi" file into XSI Mod Tool.

To go back to .msh:

Export the file as ".xsi" from XSI Mod Tool,

Import the ".xsi" file into Milkshape3D(with the .XSI Importer plug-in)

Export the file from Milkshape3D as "Milkshape3DASCII.txt"

Import the "Milkshape3DASCII.txt" into BConstructor
then save as "Battlefront Mesh (.msh)"

This works for static objects.

You can go into ZE and save an object as ".obj" and import the ".obj" file straight into Milkshape3d and make some simple changes but the obj will not have any UVs or material data.

In the below thread it seems as though you can import them. I looked at the thread like 10 times already but i still find it rather confusing. Im sorta getin it now though.
The thread refers to 'milkshape'. I thought it was XSI that was used to make things in battlefront not 'milkshape'. Is this 'milkshape stuff needed to import msh into XSI mod tool? And how exactley do I use BConstucter?

EDIT: thanks AceMastermind, that will usefull.

Yeah I do what AceMastermind does. MSH-->BConstructor-->ASCII txt-->Milkshape-->dotXSI (or Wavefront OBJ works too)-->Softimage XSI

For real? I thought once an object was in msh form it was lost forever to XSI.
