You will NEED the experience from Portal. Even I, who's beat Portal over 5 times, has had major headaches over it.

And even though it's a Prelude, you need to know stuff from Portal. Portal teaches you the techniques and maneuvers, and Prelude enforces them and teaches you new things based off of those.

Ahhh... Fluffy understand. Although, he always likes a challenge, and doesn't really want to care at the time (too tired)

Restart Steam, and you need a Source game.

Fluffy. It's not hard, but confusing. Utterly confusing.

Well apparently you actually need Portal to play it.
It's not showing up in my Steam games list either, Grev.

Im getting portal later today. I convinced my parents that the $20 would be well spent, and they are buying it.

Truest truth in this thread.

@Dohnutt After getting a Source mod you need to restart Steam to see it. If it still doesn't show up, then I has no idea.

Gosh darn that was hard.

X|

I LOVED the last level though, it was really sweet, and tied in nicely. he did a good job of making the boss battle real tough too. Its worth the pain on those test chambers just to see the end.

The 18th and 19th test chambers are awesome. I'm somewhere around there...

Wierd, Portal didnt work for me but Portal Prelude did.

Not a great experience with either game. Protal doesnt work cuz I cant run pixel shader 1.1, and Prelude freezes on the first level when you try to get out of your "cage". When I step on the platform, I supah freeze.

I don't know much about Steam games, but I did find this:
Portal: Prelude - FAQ wrote: What do i need to be able to play Portal: Prelude?

In order to play Portal: Prelude you need to have Steam installed on your system, of course. You also need to be the owner of Portal and probably nothing else. Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike Source, Day of Defeat Source or the Source SDK Base (which can be downloaded for free in the tools tab of Steam) may be of some use, but we don't think so. In fact, I'm not really sure you need anything else than Portal, so I advise you to try and see, because there's no way I'm going to uninstall every Source game of my computer until it doesn't work anymore. Steam will notify you if something goes wrong...

Yeah, i noticed that to.

And, just for the record, you NEED to play Portal first.
1) Prelude is insanely harder and you need the experience.
2) They say somewhere that they don't teach you the skills from Portal but rather enforce them.
3) There is certain knowledge you need from Portal that greatly aids you at the end of the game. (Otherwise you'd have no clue what's going on.)

But man! Prelude is hard! I just got to
Hidden/Spoiler:
the part with the rocket turrets
and gosh it's hard.

Yes, I know you have to restart Steam.
It's been done a few times - it doesn't even show in my Start menu.

Eh, I didn't like it. The puzzles were unimaginative but rigged to be just barely possible. I spent an hour or so on the beginning of test chamber 2 before giving up and uninstalling the thing. Just so no one says I just need to be better at portal, I beat test chamber 19 in the regular game without dying on my second try. This game tells you exactly what to do, then tells you you'll probably be doing it until your eyes melt. :| Sorry, but I do not recommend this mod.

Oh, I don't think I said, but I beat it. =D
The end was AWESOME! In my opinion, Prelude is one of the best games I've ever played.
But on the site they even specifically said that it was a love / hate game. Some loved it, and some hated it.

I don't know if it's the best game I've ever played, but it was definitely challenging. I love a good challenge.

Portal perfectly fits my favorite genre of puzzle games. I love the puzzles that make you look at it for a long time, you get annoyed and leave for a bit, and then you come back and it all of the sudden seems so obvious.
