Vista incompatibility (?)

Post by biohazard »

I'm running vista and when I ran the installer a command prompt window showed up at the end with three errors talking about REG not being a valid XP command (something like that) and then said hit enter to exit. I tried running in compatility mode for XP but the same thing happened.

The maps were all there, yes, but the modes and side were not. I followed the instructions in the docs and now they are, but it still says BF version 1.1 and my instant action options look like this:

The mods are fine and everything, I can play without issue, but it'd be nice to resolve this problem.

this may or may not have anything to do with it, but SWBF2 just crashed when I attempted to play the map Concord Dawn on Uber.

Concord only works if the used memory on the game is low, aka, right when you start it up or play a really small map right before it.

Quitting the playlist does not reset the memory, only restarting the game does.

I'm not sure what you installed, but it wasn't the latest version of anything. The v1.3 patch's registry checking was removed long ago. However if everything is working, then you are just missing the localization lvl file v1.3 uses. Instead of copying that over, you should really install the latest v1.3 patch (r117).

Overall Steps:
1) Install SWBF2's v1.1 patch
2) Install latest Conversion patch (ignore any v1.3 installation issues)
3) Install Conversion Pack's v2.2 patch

The game's v1.1 display won't change as the v1.3 patch is only an unofficial patch. It didn't seem right upping the official version number...

It was the first map I tried to play. And I din't have anything other than the game and my browser running at the time.

Yes, but this is begging the question "why aren't you listening to us?"

I did all that. Does that mean despite there being a 1.3 patch folder in my GameData directory with an installer .bat the patch is already installed?

Yes; the newest version of the 1.3 patch works out of an addon folder called "AAA-v1.3patch," and is preinstalled when you extract the Conversion Pack's 2.2 patch (or the Dark Times mod, for that matter).
