Re: SWBF Series Model Showcase Thread 5th Edition
Okay so, it has potential as a high poly model to get the normal map from. However there's some edges that would need to be beveled to get a really nice normal map on it, specifically any sharp edges like the hand grip. For a high poly model to use for creating normal maps, you don't want any sharp edges. It makes the map look bad afterwords when the light hits these edges.
It's a good model, and you show a lot of potential. Keep at it.

What is the average poly count for a unit. Or still, what is the max poly count for BF2 unit wise?

Re: SWBF Series Model Showcase Thread 5th Edition
up to 3000 but thats pretty much the max snd you need lowpoly lowrez (so not just a duplication of your highres, if you do that youll munge forever)

The max for normal units in Unification is 5k tri, up to 8k tri for heroes.

Ooo, very cool. I think a very subtle environment map would look pretty snazzy on the smooth parts.

There's a model on 3D Warehouse from SWG that is spot on and can be good 3d reference for modeling a higher-res version.

Early wip of my terror bird model
http://imgur.com/a/ix4Bu
I'm hoping to make it a walker/soldier hybrid like an acklay, if not, then just a walker.

Re: SWBF Series Model Showcase Thread 5th Edition
Well, now that I have my new, awesome computer, I got 3DS Max and finally learned how to make something more complex than a box!
I present to you, a random battleship gun, a 38cm quadruple gun.
It's not textured (I don't know how to do that yet) and I don't know how to export it or anything (I don't have XSI Modtool anymore), but this is the beginning of something great, I can tell.
Maybe if I ever get to it I can make a sea battle.
EDIT:
I just noticed this post was 1 day after the 1 month period, I hope that's okay.

The carbine isn't textured and need to be scaled down. The pistol already works ingame
