Hello all,

So the Sol Map Pack is finally done... This will most likely be the only version to ever be released. It wasn't showcased in the WIP thread, but a new map was included called Titan: Xanadu (which can be seen in the screenshots below), so don't forget to check it out! For now, the following readme will cover just about all the important information one can know about the map pack:
Hidden/Spoiler:
TITLE: Sol Map Pack (build 10927/01)
DEVELOPERS: Aaron “Marth8880” Gilbert, AQT, James “THEWULFMAN” Plummer, and Scott_W.Pilgrim

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Run SolMapPackSetup_r1_standalone.exe and follow the on-screen instructions to install.
2. Launch Star Wars: Battlefront II and enjoy playing the first release of the Sol Map Pack!

THE STORY:
Around the summer of 2011, Marth8880 and THEWULFMAN had an idea to create a map pack whose maps are based on locations found in our Solar System, and thus the Sol Map Pack was born. Not many maps had been released during the timespan of 2011-2014, but the project was sparked back into life with the help of AQT.

MOD NOTES:
- All maps will show up in purple-colored text in the Instant Action roster.
- The Mass Effect era is only available if Mass Effect: Unification R5 is installed.
- This map pack adds 27 missions to the runtime heap if Mass Effect: Unification is installed or 20 missions if it is not.

GENERAL KNOWN ISSUES:
- Occasionally hero music won’t play at all in a single match.
- Every once and a while, if a lot of missions in a playlist have been played, a crash will occur during the loading screen of one of the maps. This issue might have some relation to Mass Effect era missions being present in the playlist, but it is ultimately unknown.
- There is a small chance that a map will have glowing terrain after loading. Restart the map in order to fix this issue.

EARTH: LUNA

DEVELOPER: Aaron “Marth8880” Gilbert

THE STORY:
"Alliance/Republic forces are sent out into the dark reaches of deep space to investigate a derelict Corellian Corvette that went missing near the planet "Earth" in the Sol System.”

This is the pilot map to the Sol Map Pack. As most of you probably already know, LUNA, Earth’s one and only natural satellite, has been studied by astronomers and eventually explored by astronauts for quite a large number of years, and this map is set upon the landing site from the Apollo 17 lunar landing mission. Although the map isn't an exact copy of the landing site, it is a close representation - give or take a few Star Wars props here and there.

THIS IS A MOD MAP:
- depicting the Apollo 17 landing site on Earth’s moon.
- based on photographs taken by the Apollo 17 astronauts during the mission.

THIS MAP CURRENTLY FEATURES:
- Eras including the Clone Wars, Galactic Civil War, and Mass Effect,
- Modes including Conquest and XL,
- Auto-piloted bombers and assault craft,
- Vehicles (AT-TE, Spider Walker, AT-AT, and more),
- An Apollo Lunar Lander prop,
- Realistically named geographic locations of the landing site, and
- A rather eerie, yet beautiful soundscape.

MAP/REAL LANDING SITE DIFFERENCES:
It is not very likely that there is a downed Corellian Corvette on our very own Luna. Not only that, but there probably aren't Star Wars or Mass Effect actions brawling up there either.

ASSETS CREDITS:
- THEWULFMAN & Redwiz: Ideas, general help, etc.
- Sky_216: Cave assets
- ERH: Ambient soundscape
- Spiral Graphics: Hi-def ground texture
- NASA/Google: Reference photographs from the moon and the Apollo 17 mission
- NASA: Apollo Lunar Lander original model
- Celestia: Earth sky object texture
- Marth8880: Teleporter model, Apollo Lunar Lander model conversion, Earth sky object model
- Scott_W.Pilgrim & The Nasal Abyss: Attempts at exporting the Lunar Lander model
- AQT: Apollo Lunar Lander gold foil texture and various prop and texture upgrades

EARTH: PIONEER TRAILS

DEVELOPER: Aaron “Marth8880” Gilbert

THE STORY:
Based on a real park in my neighborhood, Pioneer Trails is a beautiful place that makes for an excellent battlefield with its abundance of trees, grassy hills, large pond and open battlefronts. Marth8880 actually happens to live in the same neighborhood as this park and it is a 5-10 minute bike ride on the trails.

THIS IS A MOD MAP:
- depicting a real neighborhood park in Washington State on our own planet Earth.
- based on nearly 20 years of real-life experience visiting and exploring the park.

THIS MAP CURRENTLY FEATURES:
- Eras including the Clone Wars, Galactic Civil War, and Mass Effect,
- A variety of objects such as trees (both standing and fallen), shrubs, turrets, barriers and grass,
- Vehicles (AAT, IFT-X, AT-AP, and more),
- Remarkably beautiful visuals,
- Simulated low gravity,
- Five random weather variations,
- Environmental ambiance, and
- More included inside!

MAP/REAL PARK DIFFERENCES:
There are not very many differences between this map and the real park. For example, this map is located in a completely tree enclosed area whereas the real park can be viewed from a sidewalk in my neighborhood. In the real park, there are even some houses from which you can clearly see the park! Another difference is the trails: the trails in the real park are asphalt, have bended turns and some have park exits. Trails in this map are winding and asphalt but have no real park exits. One more difference is the objects. The real park has a small playground, tennis court and baseball diamond/soccer goals while the map has log barriers as well as turrets.

KNOWN ISSUES:
- Occasionally some objects may flicker. This is due to the high number of polygons present in the map, specifically in the trees, and reducing the polygon count much further will detract from the visual quality of the map.
- It was reported by some testers that the sky dome objects such as the Seattle skyline and Mount Rainier appear completely un-textured and white to them. The exact cause of this issue is unknown and it is being looked into.

ASSET CREDITS:
- AQT: various props and textures
- THEWULFMAN: ‘sun’ variation sky dome texture, sewer manhole mesh and texture
- Marth8880: path model, electric meter model, park sign model, lake sign model, bench model
- Scott_W.Pilgrim: tree meshes and textures
- CG Textures: various textures
- General_Nate: water fountain prop and effect
- Freesound.org: ambient sound streams and effects

MARS: GERYON MONTES

DEVELOPER: Aaron “Marth8880” Gilbert and AQT

THE STORY:
Colonizing Mars, often known as “the red planet,” has been a human goal for a very long time, and Marth8880 thought it would be interesting to see what a Martian colony would look like inside Battlefront II. The map was planned, started and designed in 2012, fell into neglect for the longest time, and then was sporadically picked back up and refurbished with the help of AQT in the summer of 2014.

THIS IS A MOD MAP:
- depicting what a small colony located at the base of the Geryon Montes mountain range might look like.
- based on topographical/geographic data from various satellites orbiting Mars.

THIS MAP CURRENTLY FEATURES:
- Eras including the Clone Wars, Galactic Civil War, and Mass Effect,
- Modes including Conquest, 2-Flag CTF, and Hero Assault,
- Lockheed Martin X-33 sky objects and prop, and
- A rather eerie, yet beautiful soundscape.

MAP/REAL PLANET DIFFERENCES:
For the most-ish part, the map is pretty faithful to the real-life planet. However, there are some pretty large differences. One is the size of the Martian moons, Deimos and Phobos: in the map, they are largely visible in the Martian sky as opposed to being hardly visible from Mars’ surface. Also, the stars in the map are clearly visible whereas they would not be visible in real life, at least not during the day. The natural hue of the sky was also changed for artistic reasons.

ASSETS CREDITS:
- DarthD.U.C.K.: generator sound effect
- Eddie and Squipple: various models from Squeddie's Model Pack
- Rends: various models from Coruscant City assets
- NASA/Google: photographs and terrain topology references from Mars
- RepSharpshooter: Meshtool, various models from DMI Prefab Pack
- Sky_216: tower model
- Willinator: planter model

TITAN: XANADU

DEVELOPER: James “THEWULFMAN” Plummer and Scott_W.Pilgrim

THE STORY:
Based on the moon of the same name, Titan has long been a subject of THEWULFMAN’s imagination and interest. He has been drawing pictures of the surface of Titan since he was 10. Attempting to recreate it in Battlefront II was just a natural progression. The name Xanadu refers to the highly-reflective Australia-sized equatorial area on the moon’s leading hemisphere with the same name, where this map is set.

THIS IS A MOD MAP:
- depicting the surface of the Saturnian moon Titan.
- heavily based on the data collected by NASA from the Cassini-Huygens mission.

AVAILABLE MODES:
- CW, GCW and MEU Conquest
- CW and GCW XL

FEATURES:
- Vehicles (AAT, IFT-X, AAC, and IFT-T),
- Lakes of liquid hydrocarbons (methane, ethane, and propane) and liquid hydrocarbon rain,
- A drill, tunneling through the icy crust to reach the liquid water below the surface where life is theorized to possibly exist,
- Simulated low gravity,
- A rather eerie, yet beautiful soundscape.

MAP/REAL MOON DIFFERENCES:
Saturn is depicted much larger in Titan’s sky than it is in reality. This is done for dramatic effect, to create a more impressive environment. Saturn is also shown at a different axis than it is in reality, this is done because Titan orbits along the same plane as the rings, and sees only their relatively thin edge. The lakes of Titan are of a tar-like consistency, something that can’t be replicated in Battlefront II. Beyond that, much was done to maintain as realistic as depiction as possible within the engine limitations, with the current knowledge we have about Titan.

KNOWN ISSUES:
- The small rocks scattered around the map have odd lighting on high settings.

ASSET CREDITS:
- Scott_W.Pilgrim: Various models and finishing the map when THEWULFMAN no longer could open Zero Editor.
- Imperial Earth by Arthur C. Clarke: inspiration
- NASA: inspiration and color references
- CG Textures: various textures
- Spiral Graphics: rock texture

VENUS: RESEARCH STATION

DEVELOPER: AQT

THE STORY:
In late 2011, after seeing the lack of originality in the terrain-based maps Marth8880 was working on at the time for the pack, AQT decided to help out by contributing a map that does not rely on any terrain at all.

THIS IS A MOD MAP:
- depicting what a human settlement on the real-life planet of Venus might look like.
- loosely based on the Colonization of Venus by Geoffrey A. Landis.

AVAILABLE MODES:
- CW, GCW and MEU Conquest
- CW, GCW and MEU 2-Flag CTF
- GCW Hero Assault

FEATURES:
- Large floating atmosphere generator
- Local NASA astronaut side
- New ambient sounds and music
- Animated props
- And many more!

MAP/REAL PLANET DIFFERENCES:
Although there exists the most Earth-like environment after the Earth itself in the Solar System at 50 kilometers in Venus’s atmosphere, units still have to deal with the lack of breathable oxygen and the damaging effects of sulfuric acid.

ASSET CREDITS:
- Scott_W.Pilgrim: edited/fixed dome model, Global Hawk model conversion
- Caleb1117: various models from released asset packs
- DarthD.U.C.K.: generator sound effect
- Eddie and Squipple: various models from Squeddie's Model Pack

This looks amazing. The "Earth-rise" on the Luna map is absolutely beautiful and a nice touch. I'll be sure to download this and play it tonight.

I played Venus, Titan, and Luna and thoroughly enjoyed them. Loved the look and feel of Titan, with the hydrocarbon lakes and rain. Solid work.

If you really want a mod completely focused on delivering a TFU vibe, try Dark Times II.

I think it is just because the thing on the left and right of the head should be sticking to the shoulders and not loose. Maybe someone could model a shadowguard head without those pieces, and use it as a GeometryAddon to a msh with no head.

As leader of the original Solar Battlefront team in 2006 that failed to release anything truly playable, I'm very happy to see someone else picked up the idea of Solar System map packs and actually got some stuff out - and it all looks top-notch. Intensely jealous.

(Yes, I still browse. No, I still can't mod to save my life.)
