Hey guys! I just recently got far enough into my mod that I feel like I can announce it. It's a ground to space map of Mygeeto. Check out these pictures and gameplay video!
Looking great so far, but I have a question. Was mygeeto not floating like bespin platforms a little bit. Never knew that it had a surface so to say. Maybe you could reimplement mygeeto just like with bespin platforms and change the sky + create a snowy environment.
There needs to be a large object(s) around the outside of the map to prevent people and fliers from leaving the area, set the map max height so fliers can't fly over the object(s) and set up a boundary region as well. Other than that, looking good so far.
Well, from the (very few) movie screenshots I could find online, it looked like the platforms were built into mountains. That's why I elected to not make the platforms floating.
Also, I'm planning on just setting up an invisible boundary, like the ones with the "Leaving Battleground" message.
Anyway, I'm pretty happy with how it's going, considering it's my first ever mod project!
My main problem is that you can see the edges of the map and even with boundaries I think you can still see it, I was just thinking from a visual perspective it would look better if people couldn't see the end of the terrain, your map though.
Yeah, that bothers me too. I'm planning on both making the terrain larger (which means re-doing the mountains... *sigh*) and also making a dome that's just smaller than the edges of the map with the sky texture. Hopefully that will make it look believable. I'll also have a larger sphere outside to make the planet look larger from "space." I don't quite have the details entirely hammered out, but I'm working on it. I want it as believable as possible.
It would make sense for Mygeeto to be relatively foggy (or at least not have a very good view distance), so maybe you could use that to help conceal the rest of the map?
I was thinking about using fog, but I think it would still show up when you're in "space," and I feel like that would kind of ruin the illusion. My current plan is to make like a cylinder for the inside atmosphere that would be just small enough to cover the edges of the map. Then, make a boundary so that when players "enter the atmosphere," they don't go outside of that cylinder. Then, have a sphere for the outside atmosphere. I'm still thinking about it, but I'm sure I'll come up with something!
Is there some system in place to stop a bomber from casually wiping out twelve thousand ground units in two minutes? That was one of the biggest annoyances with the Capital Strike maps, imo.
The particle turrets I would think? I would suggest adding the bespin AA turrets to the map to balance the power, makes for more tactical and balanced gameplay.

Or just change the scale of the damage done to units.
That wouldn't be very realistic, I suppose. I know there's always some suspension of disbelief involved, but lowering the explosion radius seems like a better option imho.
Wow this map is almost identical to a Mygeeto map i've been working on for a while! Alomst the same concept! (flyers, captial ships, mountainous terrain, etc.) Your map is Looking good though!
