to change the tips you need to localize "level/common/tips" you don't need to overwrite every single tip if you don't want to. What I did was deleted all but one tip (although you can have/change as many as you want) and then I changed the content of the remaining tip to my mod map specific info and tips, that way that info is all (in terms of tips) that shows when my map loads. I also included my name in the tip/info, it's just an easy way of ensuring your work isn't "stolen" or any credit taken away from you, for instance you could change it to:
---------------------------------------------------------------
Mustafar: Hot Footing It

Lava World place, you know, it looks cool!
Destroy your opponents (derrr!) Capture CPs (derrr!) Don't walk on the lava, it's hot and you'll die!

Oh yeah this is my map, don't claim it as your own. For permission to distribute it email:
myemailaddress@wherever.com

CarbineImpulse

-------------------------------------------------------------
That sort of thing. You can have any number of tips and it doesn't effect the regular tips that you get with the game when you run other levels. Be sure to have your changed tips in the various different language versions, ie US & UK. I do my tips etc in all languges, converting (and checking) by using AltaVista's Babel Fish - Link although there are other language convertors out there. Anyway it's something I'd recommend doing.

and may I ask how you made the Tool Tip..?

as we can see - you've (of course) made the tool Til in the common.lvl file for your costum map, but did you write it in the .lua? :o or did you localize it..?

Pure, plain and simple localizing. No luas or any weird stuff.

Simply edit, level.common.tips to whatever you want. I realise I've got only 1 tip there but it works just the same and as well with more! I recommend having a good look and play round with the contents of the localizing settings, there are other interesting "nuggets" in there.

EDIT: Again this only effects the tips for your custom map, everything else (shipped maps tips etc...) are not affected.

***Topic split***

This discovery was cool enough to merit it's own topic, plus a place in the FAQ. Nice find, CarbineImpulse! :greeny:

Loading screens are handled via the files in /DATA/LVL_PC/LOAD and therefore cannot be changed. I've asked both psych0fred and PAN-fnord on this one.

Thanks Tean' :)
and did the text-box change the size depending on how much you had written
Yes it automatically resizes so you need to keep an eye on where you hit the "Enter" button whilst editting the localization content.

Use it well guys! :)

i've known this for a long time, the only problem is it is that you can;t make your text really long, becouse the bottom parts will be hard to read when it goes over the writing

Sweetness!

I remember hearing that one of the PAN guys said that he could release to us the loading screen munge thinger. Anything ever come of it...like...did he say no or something like that?

Custom loading screens would be so cool... *tear*

This is a neat thing that I wouldnt have realised previously, nice touch to your maps.

Thanks.

Edit: and yeah being able to pump up the bloom, throw some photoshop effects on a screenshot, and use it for the loading screen would be sick.

We probably cant have the munger, it will probably expose some horrible error in bf2 coding.

also i have a feeling that the pan guys are gone for good around here. but what do i know..
