What do YOU want to see in a space map?
Well, as the topic starts, what do you want to see in a space map? I always felt that stock maps were.... lacking..... but I could never place my finger on it. Please don't post absurd ideas, as those WILL NOT be implemented.

Uhm... Multiple cap ships, stronger but less accurate turrets with a slower rate of fire, dunno what else.

It's a space map, I want to see space fighting. That means smarter AI and thus better pathing. Read the FlyerSplineFollowing.txt and apply that liberally- much more than Pandemic did for their space maps. This takes time and effort; play around with the pathing controls to see what works.

This might seem like a negligible detail, but music is important for me. I never liked the shipped GCW space battles in part because the music was so boring, which is incredible considering that some of the best music in the original trilogy came from space battles. There might be a few minutes of good music, then in the middle of the battle some music kicks in that was used in the movies for "wander around the base and try to be sneaky" scenes.

I would like to see more transports and see them board enemy capital ships, not sure if it is possible though.

It is possible to give a node on a flyer spline a property that tells AI to land, but I really don't think it would work too well in a space map. It would be extremely difficult to set up a path that led the AI into a hangar without crashing. i'd like either firing in hangars (i know it's hardcoded so it's only a dream really) or sort of more intense battle like battle over coruscant where the ships are more of obstacles and make it more of a "map" then space battles are now

Look at the opening scene of Episode III. Now look at a Space Map for SWBFII. Huge difference. Now, how could one make it more like that.
Well, you could add more capital ships. and a few more frigates. But instead of having them side by side, have them scattered around. And layered. I always found it a bit annoying how the capital ships were at the same level and you could make a quick bee-line from one to another. Mav's KotOR Space Map is a great example of the scattered layering.
Also, more AI and vehicles. This adds a sort of hectic franticness to the battle. Like you have to try to survive intsead of just bloing everything up.
One more thing, make the capital ships destructable. Kinda like conquest where you can take all the CPs to win.

i'd say not capital ship destruction but frigate destruction but frigates are stronger and have more health/guns

You could always animate a transport as an object to fly to the hangar and "land." But if you set it to be able to spawn units, they'd be able to spawn mid-flight and fall to their dooms. another idea would be capturable ships that then change turret teams when they change teams (this actually can be done in bf2)
