Star Wars: Battlefront: Main Play Mod Reboot
Posted: Wed Feb 27, 2019 11:28 am
I am proud to announce that I am in deep development of a reboot of the Main Play Mod. It's been a decade since my very first mod released, and I decided to honour this by creating a successor to that mod.
As I continued working on Legacy, I came to view the original Main Play Mod as a bit... haphazard in its approach. Since then, we have had 3 games (Elite Squadron, 2015, SWBF2017) and even had an alpha of SWBF3 leak out. That's a lot of ideas and inspiration. Now, for Legacy, the idea was to stick to the rough ideas of the classes in the original game. The design for MPM was always about creating a new class experience.
The big difference is class consistency. By sticking to the five-class setup, I've managed to make the gameplay seem fairer in several ways. Some of the class structure is based on that of Legacy, while some of it is new to this mod. The following classes are playable:
-Assault (armed with a Blaster Rifle, Array Gun and Thermal Detonators)
-Heavy (Armed with a heavy weapon, torpedo launcher, mines and concussion grenades)
-Officer (armed with a blaster pistol, orbital strike beacon, health/ammo dispensers and recon droids)
-Specialist (armed with a sniper rifle, EE-4, and a personal shield generator)
-Brute (armed with a heavy blaster rifle with a 'frenzy' mode, impact grenades and time bombs)
The intention further down the line is to have all-new maps for each planet in SWBF. This will take some time, especially since I'm new to map-making (though if anybody wishes to assist, they're more than welcome to). Please note that the aim is to develop these new maps for use in both MPM and Legacy.
Here's some screenshots:
Please note that while the actual unit setup is done bar balance tweaks, the actual models and textures are likely not final. I am sticking with the Stormtroopers, though: it both references the original mod and creates a visual distinction between the Stormtroopers here and in Legacy and VISM.
Release TBC.
