I present to you all...

SOL: LUNA

Image

THE STORY:
"Alliance/Republic forces are sent out into the dark reaches of deep space to investigate a derelict Corellian Corvette that went missing near the satellite "Luna" of Terra in the Sol System, with Imperial/Separatist hostiles following closely behind."

This is the pilot map to a rather large map pack whose maps will be released one by one and are being created by myself, THEWULFMAN, and AQT. As most of you probably already know, LUNA, Terra's one and only natural satellite, has been studied by astronomers and eventually explored by astronauts for quite a large number of years, and this map is set upon the landing site from the Apollo 17 lunar landing mission. Although the map isn't an exact copy of the landing site, it is a close representation - give or take a few Star Wars props here and there.

***Please note that you may make a request to develop (a) map(s) for the Sol Map Pack. Shoot me or WULF a PM if you're interested.***

THIS MAP CURRENTLY FEATURES:
- Modes including Conquest and XL,
- Low-gravity combat; click here for a tutorial,
- Auto-piloted bombers and assault craft,
- Visually-modified sides in both eras,
- Vehicles (AT-TE, Spider Walker, AT-AT, and more),
- An Apollo Lunar Lander prop,
- Realistically named geographic locations of the landing site,
- A rather eerie, yet beautiful soundscape, and
- BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!!...

OTHER STUFF TO EXPECT:
- The Mass Effect Mod.
- Maps from the Sol Map Pack.

UPCOMING MAPS IN THE SOL MAP PACK:
- Saturn: Titan (Xanadu)
- Venus (Research Facility)
- Jupiter (Mining Compound)
- Jupiter: Io (Geth Production Plant)
- Pluto

MAP/REAL LANDING SITE DIFFERENCES:
It is not very likely that there is a downed Corellian Corvette on our very own Luna. Not only that, but there probably aren't Star Wars factions brawling up there either...

MAP NOTES:
- The music in this map has been replaced with an eerie, yet beautiful soundscape; every map in the Sol Map Pack will have its own unique soundscape to replace the music.
- Auto-piloted flyers are only present in offline matches; this is due to a crashing issue online.
- The lunar lander model is not missing textures; the white that you see is the gross texture that NASA included.
- OH BOY, an easter egg hunt?!
- Don't get scared...

KNOWN ISSUES:
- When you try to load this map after the first time you have launched it after having started Star Wars Battlefront II, this map will crash; however, it does not need to be the first map played right after launching the game.
- Luke Skywalker is...weird. He has the award pistol and shoots dead corpses just like the rest of the Alliance; the reason for this is because in order to have him use the Rebel "space trooper" unit mesh, I had to use the Rebel Soldier as a ClassParent, which inherited everything that the Rebel Soldier uses, including voiceovers as well as weapons

BETA TESTERS:
- Whoever else decided to play any of the public betas. |:D but4specifically...:
- THEWULFMAN
- Redwiz

Is that my sabermodel? That's a terrible low quality hehe!

Looks good, only thing I can say from the pics is the bright coloring on the vehicles isn't my thing, but I'll give it a try since the map itself looks nice :)

Umm, I know it's your saber combo, I'm not sure about the model though. I'm pretty sure they're both yours, so I'll add your name to the credits list.

Oh the credits aren't the problem, as long as I'm credited.. In some sort of way ^^

Did hapslash make a Plo Koon model as well? That model looks really good!

Thanks for the support, guys! I really hope you enjoy playing it as much as I enjoyed developing it! :D

Oh, and if you find the easter egg, please only talk about it in spoiler tags. :) Thanks!

It isn't, it's just not a completely solid red.

I just played it, and i must say it is a really nice map. My only critics would be to work more on your props textures (because even if is white, it has to look nice). To fix the CTD error. And probably add low gravity to heroes too. Nice job  .

And i haven't problems with Luke, he works fine.

Thanks for the comment! :) Regarding the Lunar Lander: Yeah, that model was the one thing keeping me from releasing this map for simply the longest time; I really just wanted to get this thing out the door. I can assure you though that this map will have a good number of patches for these sorts of things. I always pay a lot of attention to detail and polish and try to make everything perfect, even if it may not always end up as so. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the pilot! Keep on the lookout for the rest! :D

EDIT: RE: Luke

Yeah, I think I actually managed to fix him by giving him some more force powers. Please let me know if you catch him whipping out that dinky award pistol of his.

More cover. I was getting owned in seconds.

Maybe a full report later.

Trust me, I tried - any more cover results in the vehicles not being able to navigate the map.

Yeah...how about some random potholes? Not too deep...not too shallow.

EDIT: Nah, that's make the map look bad. Uhhh...maybe I'll think of something later.

EDIT2: It crashed when I won on GCW XL...I won, got to the scores screen, then said OK, minimized it, and then realized that it was gone. I had nothing else on my playlist.

Yeah..... That has been an issue ever since one of the first builds of the map; I have absolutely no clue what could be causing it, though I'm pretty sure it's a memory issue.

This map is very good: I like the idea of a battle set around the Apollo landing site !!! :D
Some textures are a bit strange, like the spider walker one, but it's better than no new textures at all.
I hope the other maps of this mappack will be released soon.

But, is that an easter egg ?

And the lunar lander lacks a bit of his collision.
Hidden/Spoiler:
Plo Koon's escape pod wasn't as high-tech as Yoda's one

Anyways, it's a really great map and an awesome concept .
